Job Description:

You will serve as a MATERIALS ENGINEER in the CODE 134.2, MATERIALS SCIENCE BRANCH in the LABORATORY DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
GS-0806-11 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience evaluating various materials used in submarine preservation. *Experience in the field of metallurgy, with emphasis on metals. *Experience working with a wide range of new or experimental materials during failure analysis. *Experience preparing final materials engineering investigation reports. *Experience providing technical guidance to various production shops on the application of materials. GS-0806-09 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience assisting with the evaluation of various materials used in submarine preservation. *Experience assisting in performing the testing of metallurgic materials to assure compliance. *Experience assisting with the preparation of final materials engineering investigation reports. *Experience in the field of metallurgy, with emphasis on metals. *Experience preparing shipyard process instructions for shop use. You will provide the foundation for testing and evaluating various materials used in submarine overhauls.
You will provide technical expertise support in the field of metallurgy.
You will present orally results of investigations to senior leadership.
You will often work with experimental metals and alloys, where properties and structure of the material may not be known.
