Job Description:
You will serve as a NAVAL ARCHITECT (HYDROMECHANICS) in the SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, COMPUTING, AND WEAPONS (ECW) within the ACADEMIC DEAN COST CENTER, at the U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing consultation to end users in evaluating the proposals, designs, and test setups for nonstandard uses of hydromechanics and/or ocean/coastal engineering laboratory facilities; 2) Preparing engineering drawings/3-d models, specifications, complex technical calculations, and/or supporting documents for the test program; and 3) Providing technical oversight and direction on team-based projects, hands-on laboratory exercises, and/or independent research. You will assist in setting up and conducting class laboratory demonstrations of ship stability, ship propulsion and ship dynamics, as well as demonstrations on ocean waves, sediment transfer, remote-operated-vehicles and renewable energy devices.
You will assist faculty members with instructing classes of Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy about laboratory equipment and procedures.
You will be using, maintaining, and providing engineering upgrades to unique laboratory facilities
including a large, high-speed towing basin, a small towing tank for student use, and a free-surface cavitation tunnel and a shallow-water coastal wave basin.
You will provide consultation to midshipmen, faculty and external users/researchers in evaluating the proposals, designs and test setups for nonstandard uses of NAHL facilities.
You will perform complex technical calculations and design novel equipment and test setups in support of student and faculty research, both in the lab facilities and also in the field.
You will present on analyses and tests for presentation to various organizations and levels of government and academia.
