Job Description:

This position is located with the Office of Secure Transportation (OST), Office of Technical Services (OTS), Safety and Security Division (SSD), Environment, Safety and Health Branch. The position serves as a recognized technical authority responsible technical management for nuclear material and nuclear explosive cargo transportation, packaging, and emergency response.
For the General Engineer NN-03 position: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the NNSA pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service i.e., EN/NN-02 or GS-11. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience serving in a nuclear, radiological, chemical, safety role to provide support of nuclear material and nuclear explosive cargo transportation, packaging, and emergency response the transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, special nuclear materials). Experience working within a team to provide non-containment atmospheric dispersion data, including providing risk scenarios to Operations and Emergency Management programs. Experience performing all-hazards surveys and emergency planning for hazardous assessments. Reviewing Protective Action Recommendations for atmospheric dispersion non-containment scenarios. Examples of specialized experience: Serving in a nuclear, radiological, chemical, safety role to provide support of nuclear material and nuclear explosive cargo transportation, packaging, and emergency response the transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, special nuclear materials). Working within a team to provide non-containment atmospheric dispersion data, including providing risk scenarios to Operations and Emergency Management programs. Performing portions of an All-Hazards Surveys and Emergency Planning Hazardous Assessments. Reviewing Protective Action Recommendations for atmospheric dispersion non-containment scenarios. For the General Engineer NN-04 position: Specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the NNSA pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service i.e., EN/NN-03 or GS-13. Experience: Experience providing advanced technical advice and direction related to transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, special nuclear materials). Experience overseeing engineering aspects of nuclear material and nuclear explosive cargo transportation, packaging, and emergency response to the transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, or special nuclear material. Experience validating hazard analysis and risks assessments associated with the transportation of nuclear material and nuclear explosive cargo transportation, packaging, and emergency response to the transportation of specific hazardous materials. Examples of Specialized Experience: Providing advanced technical advice and direction related to transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, special nuclear materials). Overseeing engineering aspects of nuclear material or nuclear explosive cargo transportation, packaging, and emergency response to the transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, or special nuclear material. Validating hazard analysis and risks assessments associated with the transportation of nuclear material and nuclear explosive cargo transportation, packaging, and emergency response to the transportation of specific hazardous materials. As a General Engineer NN-0801-03 your major duties will include: Performing technical management and coordination providing technical advice and assistance regarding DOD-DOE orders, guides, standards, handbooks (HDBKs), and internal procedures as they relate to transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, special nuclear material (SNM), etc.) and quantities that, if released, could cause impacts consistent with an operational emergency. Performing functions involving broad multidisciplinary scientific and engineering knowledge required to be a principal contributor in qualitative and quantitative analyses of a hazardous materials. Applying federal regulations is necessary for compliance, readiness reviews, risk analyses, incident reporting, and self-assessment. Participating in matters relating to hazard analyses and risk assessments associated with the operation of the Transportation Safeguards System (TSS). Participating in activities involving Documented Safety Analysis, Technical Safety Requirements, and hazardous material component analysis. Being responsible for the technical management and coordination of an assortment of complex Federal Orders, Comprehensive Emergency Management System, and required documents including qualitative and quantitative analysis. As a General Engineer NN-0801-04 your major duties will include: Serving as a recognized technical authority and advisor to the Branch and to Field Element managers providing expert technical advice regarding DOD-DOE orders, guides, standards, handbooks (HDBKs), and internal procedures as they relate to transportation of specific hazardous materials (nuclear weapons, nuclear weapon components, special nuclear material (SNM), etc.) and quantities that, if released, could cause impacts consistent with an operational emergency. Performing functions involving broad multidisciplinary scientific and engineering knowledge required to be a principal contributor in qualitative and quantitative analyses of hazardous materials. Applying federal regulations is necessary for compliance, readiness reviews, risk analyses, incident reporting, and self-assessment. Performing intense efforts in matters relating to hazard analyses and risk assessments associated with the operation of the Transportation Safeguards System (TSS).
