The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist is assigned to the Psychology Service at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) but is under the clinical and administration supervision of the supervisors of the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program at the Menlo Park Division of the VAPAHCS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-11: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience includes: understanding vocational rehabilitation principles and the supported employment model; assisting clients with job placement and providing ongoing support to ensure employment retention; and performing administrative and clerical tasks essential for maintaining program documentation and records. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~ A Ph.D., equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Carrying out all duties related to obtaining and maintaining competitive employment for Veterans diagnosed with substance use disorders (SUDs); Developing and adjusting employment plans; Shaping, negotiating, and implementing job accommodations; Promoting optimal occupational functioning of clients within the community in the context of prescribed job development interventions specified in the client's treatment plan; Recruiting, interviewing, assessing, and selecting suitable clients for competitive employment in the community; Focusing on employment issues and exploring effective ways to engage each Veteran in a positive relationship with shared goals; Conducting follow-up interviews and evaluations as needed; Utilizing appropriate counseling interventions to develop job placements to match each Veteran's functional level; Providing ongoing negotiations with employers to ensure the client's maintenance of competitive employment; Documenting therapeutic interventions, goals, objectives, and outcomes through the writing of a comprehensive individualized employment plan and actively participating in the implementation of the plan; Performing related duties as required. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 13 months). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
