GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as : : providing technical assistance on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions; resolving recurring software and hardware problems, providing technical, digital, and advisory assistance to an organization Education: one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Law, IT): Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: A combination of experience and graduate level education can be used if, when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. (Only graduate education in excess of one full year is creditable.) GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in federal service. Specialized experience is defined working in a legal environment providing assistance to litigation teams on legal automation systems; organizing and managing case specific discovery; using automated litigation support technology such as Ipro Tech Eclipse, Lexis Nexis CaseMap, HotDocs, Relativity, Trail Director and Beyond Compare to organize complex and voluminous case information for retrieval, prepare computerized trial presentations, and index digital evidence; researching, analyzing and summarizing relevant legal precedents; and preparing and maintaining a variety of trial related documents. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Law, IT): Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related. Education must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described in A and education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Only graduate level education in excess of the first two years can be used in this calculation.) GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, applicants must have ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as working in a legal environment providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and system capabilities; organizing and managing voluminous case information using automated litigation support technology such as Ipro Tech Eclipse, Lexis Nexis CaseMap, HotDocs, Relativity, Trail Director and Beyond Compare; analyzing litigation support requirements to develop or recommend appropriate strategies to meet litigation needs; setting up computers and audio/visual recording equipment in courtrooms; diagnosing and resolving litigation support computer system problems. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If selected for this position, you will serve as a Legal Administrative Specialist in the Litigation Support Unit responsible for performing technical work to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office. Typical work assignments will include: Provide technical advice to litigation teams on the legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation. Analyze litigation support requirement to develop or recommend appropriate strategies to meet litigation needs. Communicate and collaborate with case teams and outside entities on litigation support methodologies, litigation support technology, ESI and eDiscovery, software, associated processes and workflows. Assisting and/or training attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing, etc. Preparing computerized trial presentation programs. Organizing documents for efficient automated storage and retrieval by preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria, etc Recommending software packages based on analyses of user needs and evidence. Managing and operating a variety of computer hardware such as printers, audio-visual devices, and other state-of-the-art equipment. Setting up computers and recording equipment in courtrooms and grand jury sessions. Serves as project manager for eDiscovery and litigation technology matters and trials. Provides training and guidance for litigation technology applications, workflows and processes. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
