You will serve as a ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC in the CRANE MAINTENANCE DIVISION OF THE LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, such as: Installing, modifying, troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment employing solid state electronic controls and devices. Testing, repairing, and replacing such components and parts as: resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes, integrated circuits, regulated power supplies, relays, switches and motor drive controls. Working on microprocessors, computers and associated peripheral equipment such as keyboards, as well as any other industrial transportation equipment with electronic controls or devices. Making minor electronic modifications on equipment, when required to improve maintenance and operation. Reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, electrical wiring diagrams, electronic schematics, computer logic circuits, technical procedures. You will troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, test and install industrial electronic controlled equipment.
You will train apprentices, subordinates, and other mechanics as needed in areas of the on-the-job training and trade theory.
You will perform diagnostic troubleshooting techniques to isolate faults using a wide variety of sophisticated test equipment such as digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers and line monitors.
You will align and calibrate equipment using calibration standards and alignment procedures when available and occasionally aligns by using schematics and available technical data.
