You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIRER in the CRANE MAINTENANCE DIVISION OF THE LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, such as: Diagnosing failures, making minor repairs, adjustments, and major repairs to a large variety of heavy-duty transportation equipment of many types. Mechanically and physically adapting or altering items to fit and mesh into systems and vehicles for which the items are not specifically designed. Utilizing blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Determining when parts should be cleaned, adjusted, or replaced with standard parts. - Using basic tools such as wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, brake tools, and screwdrivers. Removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories. You will disassemble, repair, and assemble machinery and equipment components such as hoist, travel, swing, and boom assemblies.
You will remove, install, and align travel, hoist, brake, and drive motors; gasoline and diesel engines.
You will repair gasoline and diesel engines.
You will perform machining operations associated with repairs such as reboring, cylinders, bearings, bushings, turning or grinding shafts, pistons, brake drums, wheels, and manufacture of replacement parts.
