The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the National Museum of African Art (NMAFA), Under Secretary for Museums and Culture, Smithsonian Institution (SI). NMAFA has an extraordinary collection of African Art, and a world-renowned photographic archive and library filled with artifacts and images dating from the tenth century to the present day.
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. The Head of Photographic and Historical Documents is responsible for ensuring NMAFA’s archival collections are accessible to the public. In this position, you will: Serve in a leadership capacity ensuring archival collections are accessible to the public and participates in Institution- wide strategic goal setting and policy work. Cultivate relationship with communities and individuals included in the collections while working to develop and build trust with new partners. Build strategic outreach and develops strategies and systems. Exercise delegated managerial authority to manage department staff, contracts, and independent contractors.
