To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Basic Requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND Education/Work Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet the following requirement: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor degree or master’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Some examples of qualifying experience are: Experience that demonstrates clinical knowledge of health care, medicine, and professional nursing principles, practices and procedures in providing services in a health care facility. Experience in applying safety principles and infection control procedures and precautions on a universal scale as it relates to a patient care environment. Experience participating in review activities associated with Health Services guidelines, Joint Commission, American Correctional Association or other accrediting or licensing bodies. Experience assisting with the development, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures relating to a health care delivery system, rehabilitative nursing, pre-and post-operative care. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. This position is located in the Health Services Department of a Bureau of Prisons, Medical Referral Center (MRC). Serves as the Utilization Review Nurse and assists in quality improvement activities through data collection, monitoring the quality of processes that impact patient safety, appropriateness of care, and efficiency of the health care delivery system. Responsible for coordination, preparation, record keeping and reporting of significant findings related to time from designation to arrival; initiation of services and consults; and review of timely care and treatment completes. Responsible for the coordination, preparation, record keeping, and reporting of significant findings related to the appropriateness of medical care and communicates findings to the Utilization Review Committee. Applies predetermined evidence-based criteria sets and clinical practice guidelines when reviewing patient care in an effort to ensure the delivery of standard of care to patients and reduce the risk of harm to patients. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
