This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of the Erie VA Medical Center. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services (e.g. textile distribution and inventory activity, sanitizing and disinfecting, waste removal, cleaning of blinds, replacing curtains, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures, discharge cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing and extracting, polishing floors and applying floor finishes.

Major Duties: Performing reliably and dependably is based on past work and/or school performance. Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms; urinal, commode, sink, mirror, etc. Keeping a stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do your work. Keeping equipment, cords, hoses, etc., clean and properly stored when not in use. Emptying trash can at various locations several times a day. Following sanitation and infection control procedures to prevent the spread of bacteria. Reading and following posted instructions through signs and pictures. Adhering to safety policies and procedures when performing manual work. Working rapidly and accurately under the pressure of deadlines. Using proper lifting techniques when lifting objects especially those that may be bulky and/or awkward. Performs floor maintenance, wall washing. Clean doors, doorframes, baseboards corners and edges. Work Schedule: Tour of Duties: Saturday - Wednesday 2:00 pm - 1030 pm., and Monday - Friday 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm. Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid/PD99909S Physical Requirements: This position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heave powered cleaning equipment (e.g., walls washer, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris. Work Environment: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstances as exposure to possible contagious injuries (i.e. broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100 pounds power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
