Job Description:
In this position you will serve as the service chief for Environmental Management Service (EMS), providing leadership and professional support to the various programs for which EMS service has oversight, including sanitation, textile care, health aid program, waste & recycling, pest management, interior design, and facility physical move program. This position is in Environmental Management Service at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago, IL.
To qualify for this position you must meet the following requirement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that was equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in Federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Hospital Housekeeping Officer. Specialized Experience must include experience in two or more of the following areas, or work directly related to this position: (1) Experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment; (2) Experience in laundry and linen management; (3) Experience in interior design management; (4) Experience that demonstrated knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition; (5) Experience that demonstrated knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals. Exercise broad managerial knowledge and technical expertise within various disciplines of the Service. Serve as the delegated authority to adopt policies issued by VA Central Office to meet local FHCC needs. Interpret and communicates local and agency policies for EMS. Administers labor management agreements and meets with Union officials to resolve problems arising from interpretation or application of contract agreements. Serve as the advisor and consultant to the Chief, EMS. Analyze the broad implications of higher levels of authority, laws, regulations, policies, as well as managerial, administrative and technical trends. Plan and direct an operation to fully coordinate the Environmental Management Service activities with an absolute minimal amount of disruption. Follow Life Safety Management (fire protection) procedures. Provide technical advice to top management. Establish standards and criteria for environmental sanitation that are fitted to the particular needs and problems of this medical center and community-based outpatient clinics. Ensure compliance within his/her area of responsibility with EPA, OSHA, JCAHO and other regulatory entities. Performs other duties assigned as it pertains to the position. Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
