The Laborer works under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor within the Engineering Service of the VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Major duties include, but not limited to: Performs skilled tasks such as cultivation of flowers, shrubs and trees, sodding lawns Performs minor patching and crack sealing of pavements Performs minor painting and assists journeyman mechanics Collects trash around the facility and disposes of waste in the dumpster Performs oral and written work assignments provided by supervisor Performs daily schedule of assigned tasks Uses regular tools such as hand tools to complete tasks as assigned Operates tenant sweeper, water cart, pressure washers and water cart Ability to clean debris from the facility grounds, to include the roof Required to lift and move objects over 50 lbs and must understand proper safe body mechanics Understands OSHA PPE use and safe work practices Skill in the operation, control, and cleaning of heavy power equipment such as exterior vacuum cleaners, tenant drive sweeper, power vacuums, and pressure washers Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 15:30pm or 7:30am - 16:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD00052A Physical Requirements: Must be in good health since much of the wok involves heavy objects, extensive walking, kneeling, stooping, and bending. May be required to lift and move objects weighing over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Works in extreme temperatures (summer and winter outside conditions). Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt.
