The Surgical Service Section of the Reno VA Medical Center provides care in various outpatient and inpatient settings throughout the facility.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Possess five (5) years of Podiatry experience. Current BLS provider card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN). Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.
Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday Telework: Not Available The mission of Podiatrist of the Veterans Health Administration is to serve the needs of America's veterans by providing the highest quality foot and ankle care. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide quality inpatient/outpatient care in accordance with approved clinical privileges. Maintain a high degree of excellence in clinical outcomes while providing efficient patient care throughout Maintain professional competency, courtesy and flexibility and provide the necessary services of this specialty. Attend and participate in outpatient clinics and take an active role in the evaluation of the patient, decision for treatment/care, and complete timely documentation in the patient electronic records. Collaborative patient management along with the other departments and sections of the hospitals including, but not limited to, laboratory, Medicine, Radiology, and the auxiliary services. Evaluate and treat Podiatric Surgical emergencies in the Emergency Department, Outpatient clinic, Inpatient ward, ICU, and the Operating Room. Attend all meetings required by the Organization and the Surgery Service in particular Proficient in General Podiatric Surgery with the ability to perform the gamut of procedures within the specialty
