The purpose of this position is to provide assistance in planning, organization, guidance and supervision necessary for the efficient maintenance of a golf course and ancillary practice area. The golf course and practice areas operate throughout the year.

A qualified candidate possess the following: An associate's degree in agronomy or related subject pertaining to the development of turf grasses with experience as a golf course maintenance worker OR a minimum of 3 years documented leadership experience in golf course maintenance. Ability to plan scheduled and supervise work, to achieve the most efficient utilization of employees and equipment. Ability to problem-solve, improvise when necessary, work under pressure and handle crises effectively. Working knowledge of the maintenance practices employed on golf course putting greens, tees, fairways, rough, and bunkers; planting and culture of the turf-grasses used on golf courses; planting, cultivating and pruning of ornamental plants, shrubs and trees; proper use of fertilizers and soil conditioners. Pest-control methods and materials and ability to become certified (licensed). Working knowledge of irrigation systems and practices and drainage methods, equipment operation, servicing and repair. Participating knowledge of the game of golf including the rules of golf. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course. The property comprises 350 acres of land and includes (2) regulation 18-hole golf courses, (2) golf practice areas, a practice range, (2) putting greens, (2) chipping areas, vehicle and equipment maintenance facilities and a pro shop and clubhouse. Assists in planning, scheduling and supervising greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, lakes, trees, ornaments and surrounding areas. Assists in the supervision of the maintenance of all mechanical and motorized equipment used to maintain the course. Assists in the implementation of a strong preventative maintenance program for equipment and accessories, pumps, irrigation and drainage systems, and maintains accurate maintenance records. Assists in supervising the proper use of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and fertilizers. Assists in the developmental of annual, weekly and daily work schedules and maintenance programs. Prepares other documents including but not limited to purchase requests, letters, bid proposals, memoranda, monthly call sheets, etc. Assists in the development and full implementation of all Safety and Occupational Health, Fire Prevention, Environmental and Industrial Hygiene requirements. Ensures employees are furnished with appropriate personal protective equipment and are instructed on proper use. Checks employees continually to ensure equipment is used and safety procedures are adhered to. Investigates mishaps and accurately prepares accident and mishap reports for subordinate employees. Inspects grounds and buildings on a continual basis noting safety deficiencies and staff and assists with full implementation of the program including keeping Hazard Communication materials such as the Authorized Use List and the Material Safety Data Sheets up to date. Assists in the preparation of annual operating budgets. Orders supplies and materials. Contacts firms to obtain competitive process regarding purchase of equipment, supplies, accessories, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. Acts for the Golf Superintendent in his/her absence and makes appropriate decisions necessary.
