Job Description:
This position is organizationally aligned under the Office of the Associate Director at the VA Illiana Health Care System VAIHCS (550) Danville, IL. The primary purpose of this position is to serves as the Facility Chief of Environmental Management Service (EMS) and coordinate the delivery and administrative and managerial responsibility for the planning, coordinating, implementation, and execution of a comprehensive Environmental Management program.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/27/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS- 11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of developing cleaning procedures, frequency of cleaning schedules, and cleaning supply usage instructions designed to maintain high quality visual and bacteriological cleanliness of all health care system floors, walls, ceilings, bathroom fixtures. Knowledge of sanitary activities involving the use of chemicals and industrial equipment and requiring sound safety, environmental, and infection control practices. Knowledge of budgetary requirements and waste removal specifications are developed and administered by Environmental Management Service. Ability to communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Knowledge of the development, implementation and maintenance of GEMS requirements in accordance with VHA and health care system policy. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have: Undergraduate Education: Major field of study - chemistry or biological sciences, sanitary science or administration, institutional sanitation or administration, hospital administration, hotel administration, public administration, business administration, or other fields related to the position. -OR-- Graduate Education: Major field of study - public health or business administration with emphasis in hospital administration. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although routine walking and standing is required. In addition, occasional operation of equipment and lifting/moving of heavy objects is required.
