Job Description:

The position is located in the Protection Directorate at the U.S. Bullion Depository in Fort Knox, Kentucky. The primary mission of the depository is the security of a great concentration of wealth for the United States Government. Included in the mission is the maintenance of the building and grounds. The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair the exterior and interior of the structure, building fixtures, utilities and grounds.

Physical Effort The work may require prolonged periods of standing, stooping, kneeling, stretching, bending, crawling, reaching, pushing and pulling while attaching rigging, and climbing on ladders, scaffolding or other structures to perform the assigned work. The work may also be performed in cramped and awkward positions while installing rigging in confined areas and working for extended periods in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to lift and carry equipment and materials related to job assignment, i.e., steel plates, lumber, cement, fireproof file cabinets, cinder blocks and equipment. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 50 pounds and on occasions lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other workers. The work requires good eyesight and hand eye coordination, and must be physically fit as, determined by medical monitoring, to wear a respirator. Wage Grade 10: I have assisted with HVAC or boiler maintenance tasks but have not performed them as a regular part of my job. Wage Grade 9: I have performed work with sheet metal, roofing, rigging, wood working, painting. I am able to do this work under close supervision. Wage Grade 8: I have assisted with HVAC tasks but have not performed them regularly or independently. In addition, you must also obtain an average score of two (2) for the following elements for this position as addressed through the online question in order to be considered minimally qualified. Your application will be evaluated in the following areas: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (screen-out), Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc, Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic), Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading), and Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
The following are the duties of this position at the WG-10. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Install, modify and repair new and existing utility supply and disposal systems related to the support of the facility. Systems include domestic, process cooling supply and return water, sewage, gas and air distribution, and water closets, showers and lavatories. Plan, route, modify and repair the above systems. Route mains, tap mains for distribution connections, cut openings for routing, install hangers and provide the proper slope for piping. Install equipment, connect utilities and test equipment for proper function and operation. Utilize machines and tools to cut, thread and groove pipe, closet augers to relieve blockages and pipe benders. Troubleshoot and maintain the building's electrical system. Maintain the facilities' entire electrical systems and equipment, emergency generator, performs preventative maintenance, trouble shoots and repairs necessary items. Perform electrical work such as devising new electrical systems, installing new circuits 1and equipment, replacing or installing lights, switches, fixtures, outlets, minor electrical equipment, repairs wiring. Perform maintenance to buildings and grounds. Troubleshoot and maintain the building's pneumatic and hydraulic systems and equipment. Service and maintain the building's elevators. Service, maintain and operate forklifts. Perform janitorial duties occasionally and all other duties as assigned. Perform a variety of other maintenance duties as assigned such as mechanical work on forklifts, maintain and grease elevator systems, air compressors, sump pumps, and small appliances; repairing sidewalks, concrete floors, and other concrete forms; installing and repairing door locks; replacing interior window glass or plexi glass; and other related duties as assigned. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, steps, driveways and parking areas by applying ice melting chemical and/or by using powered or hand snow removal equipment; replace blown light bulbs; erect folding tables, chairs, etc., assists with building management task as required, such as cleaning offices, exhibit space, restrooms, corridors, storage rooms, stairways or any area.
