This position is located at the VA Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. The work includes the operation of gasoline, diesel, or electronic powered wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers, or to tow or recover equipment.

The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Driver's License: This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with passenger endorsement, gross vehicle weight requirement of 26,001 or more pounds to include air-brakes. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: You will exert moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing and controlling vehicles which carry heavy loads and large numbers of people. Vehicles are operated in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads and there is exposure to the danger of serious accidents. You will drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated roads and interchange systems. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Shuttles patients and family members to and from approved locations on specific trip assignments and on regularly established schedules; Drives on public roads in rural and urban areas, to include federal, state, and country roads and city streets, both improved and unimproved in all traffic and weather conditions; Operates and provides preventative maintenance for patient transport vehicles; and Performs maintenance of the vehicles, such as refueling and maintenance of appropriate fluid levels, operating malfunctions for repair and maintaining the interior and exterior of the vehicles.
