Job Description:

This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration(BPA), in Power Generation Short Term Planning (PGSP) organization of Generation Scheduling (PGS), Generation Asset Management (PG), Power Services (P). A successful candidate in the Operations Research Analyst position will serve as a BPA near-term operations planning liaison to one or more Federal Agencies.
Qualifications: Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Conducted hydraulic assessments to provide operational guidance and directions for events impacting power and/or non-power objectives in real time operations; 2) Developed written documentation to resolve complex issues and problems that span broad interest internally and externally; and 3) Performed work under stress and made high impact decisions independently. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. As an Operations Research Analyst, you will advise and provide information to BPA and agency officials responsible for broad program operations; providing significant and innovative recommendations for advancing programs and/or methods; using new analytical developments and modified processes to resolve novel or obscure problems that affect broad program operations; evaluating the data resulting from applying mathematical or statistical tools, models, methods, and techniques; and acting as the authoritative source of technical input to publications or other documents that are the basis for formulating policy.
