OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicant's qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator (Fire) without more than normal supervision. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. WG Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application. Work is defined as: loading and unloading cargo by hand and forklift; ensuring cargo is appropriately secured; and safely transporting various types of hazardous materials. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Effort: Work involves reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Frequently lifts, moves, or carries items weighing up to 150 pounds while handling cargo. Makes couplings between vehicle and towed equipment and secures cargo with chains, binders and straps requiring moderate physical effort in that chains, bars, hooks, etc. must be lifted and properly secured. Working Conditions: The MVO is required to work outside and is exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading cargo and while performing vehicle inspections and maintenance. May be exposed to loud noises from trucks, helicopters and other aircraft. Drives in different types of traffic and weather conditions including heavy smoke and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents while driving, or when loading and unloading vehicles. The MVO is subject to cuts, bruises, sprains, or broken bones as a result of accidents while driving, or when loading and unloading vehicles. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) i.e. gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety toe boots, etc. is required.
Maintains a stock of expendable supplies at each building including but not limited to, bathroom supplies, powders, wax, cleaning soaps, cleaning tools, and equipment.
Completes vehicle reports, manifests, and performs vehicle inspections.
Loads and unloads cargo by hand and forklift. Ensures cargo is appropriately secured.
Safely transports various types of hazardous materials.
Completes safety and operator preventative maintenance inspections.
