Job Description:

This position serves as Supply Technician for the Environmental Management section within the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS). As a Supply Technician, you will responsible for a variety of Supply Room, Clothing Room/Patient Effects and the Lost and Found section duties, and ordering and inventory.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/20/2025. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing Environmental Management supplies and uniforms, and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Advancement to positions up to GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. For this GS-05 position, if you have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, it must have been a GS-03 or higher to be eligible. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Maintains the Lost and Found Section. Stores, and secures all items lost and turned in at the facility and maintains records of all items that are turned in and those items reported as lost; Performs daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment; Maintains an index card file on all patients' belongings that are secured; Assists the linen/laundry section in the stamping of uniforms, scrubs and lab coats and other items as necessary; Distributes uniforms to employees in accordance with established procedures; Must maintain sufficient stock levels to meet needs, while monitoring the inventory to avoid excess stock accumulation; Delivers supplies in a timely manner; Utilizes computer applications designed to track and automate purchasing and inventory process; Cleans assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and Receives supplies and material into the medical center's catchment area.
