Job Description:
You will serve as a Firefighter in the Fire and Emergency Services division of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.
GS 06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Operating fire communications equipment; and 5) Controlling hazardous materials incidents. GS 05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: 1) Performing structural and crash firefighting duties; 2) Operating firefighting communication equipment; 3) Using firefighting equipment such as operating hoses, ladders, and hydrants; 4) Detecting the presence of potentially hazardous material; 5) Maintaining firefighting equipment and fire station facilities, performing functional test and inspection of firefighting equipment. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR BOTH GRADE LEVELS: Employee is required to have DoD Firefighter Certification System for Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and First Aid Provider. You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident.
You will drive a firefighting vehicle (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck, rescue truck, brush truck, quick-attack vehicle, airport rescue fire fighting vehicle) to the scene of a fire.
You will comply with health and safety rules and procedures while treating victims.
You will perform structural firefighting duties for facilities to minimize fire damage.
You will maneuver equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles) when combating fires.
