The physician will be board-certified/eligible in ACOS/Medicine Specialty Care and perform the duties of that specialty at the Robley Rex VAMC facilities. The physician must maintain a valid state medical licensure and will be privileged and credentialled for the specialty competencies and any additional certifications/trainings when applicable. The physician may care for patients in outpatient, inpatient, procedural, and consultative settings, based on their privileges.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.- Board certification in Cardiology. Subspecialty certification in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, or other relevant cardiac imaging modalities. Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the United States. Experience in teaching and mentoring in a clinical setting. Proficiency in cardiac imaging techniques and stress testing procedures. Preferred Experience: Academic appointment or involvement in teaching programs at a university-affiliated medical center. Proven track record of research and scholarly publications in cardiovascular imaging or stress testing. Knowledge of quality improvement processes in healthcare. The Teaching Cardiologist with Imaging and Stress Test Abilities is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with cardiovascular diseases, with a specialized focus on cardiac imaging and stress tests. This position also involves mentoring and training medical residents, fellows, and other healthcare staff, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement. Duties include but not limited to: Clinical Duties: 1. Direct Patient Care: -Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments and provide personalized treatment plans. -Interpret and report findings from advanced cardiac imaging modalities such as echocardiography, stress echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. -Perform and oversee stress tests, including exercise and pharmacological stress testing.- Provide consultation services for patients referred for complex cardiovascular cases. 2. Procedures and Imaging: -Perform and interpret transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms. -Conduct and interpret other advanced cardiac imaging procedures, including cardiac CT and MRI if applicable. -Supervise and interpret various stress tests, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results. Teaching and Educational Duties: 1.Mentorship and Training: -Mentor and provide hands-on training to residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals in cardiovascular medicine, imaging, and stress testing. -Develop and deliver educational content for teaching conferences, seminars, and workshops. -Evaluate the performance of trainees and provide constructive feedback to promote their professional growth. 2.Curriculum Development: -Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum and training programs in cardiovascular imaging and stress testing. -Stay updated with the latest advancements in cardiology to incorporate evidence-based practices into the training modules. Administrative and Leadership Duties: 1.Quality Improvement: -Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes in cardiology. -Contribute to protocol development for cardiac imaging and stress testing procedures. 2. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: -Collaborate with other departments and service lines to ensure a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to patient care. -Participate in case discussions, grand rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings. Research and Scholarly Activities: 1. Research Participation: -Engage in clinical research projects related to cardiovascular imaging, stress testing, and other areas of cardiology. -Encourage and support trainees in their research endeavors. 2.Scholarly Dissemination: -Present research findings at national and international conferences. -Publish research articles in peer-reviewed journals.
