About the Position: This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX. Performs a variety of food service work: rotating between the dishwashing area, pots and pans section, cash register and patient tray service area, carrying out all of the required tasks of each section, either regularly or on a rotating basis, relieving other food service workers for breaks as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) FOOD SERVICE WORKER ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common food service and food preparation tasks. I can transport/deliver meal trays to patients. I can set up cafeteria lines. I can enter meal orders in to a computer software program. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - The work requires the employee to lift items weighing over 80 pounds with assistance; to bend, stoop, push and pull heavy objects; and involves continuous standing, walking and sitting. Must possess good eyesight and coordination for cash register, money handling duties. WORKING CONDITIONS - Performs work in noisy kitchen and dining room areas and is subject to injuries from equipment used. There is exposure to dirt, grease and water in cleaning tasks and exposure to extremes of temperature in bringing supplies from walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, serving areas, cooking equipment, utensils and dishware.
Maintain work area in an orderly and sanitary condition and prepares and store food in accordance with proper sanitation standards that have been established in the SOP.
Operate dishwashing machines and sinks using cleaning agents and ensure proper water temperatures and/or pH levels are maintained.
Prepare and wrap items for sale, replenishing items as necessary during service hours.
Support the patient tray section by reading patient menus, assembling and portioning the assigned tray items (prepared main course, hot side items, condiments, salads, desserts, etc.) in accordance with patient diet orders.
Operate cash register.
Accurately enter each item’s price, using scale for weighed items, check individual meal cards for proper authorization, enter the numerical designation from the meal card into the cash register, and make correct change as required.
