The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Maintenance Mechanic (Machine Shop). The Maintenance Mechanic (Machine Shop) is located within our Engineering Service.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The incumbent is responsible for the repair, use and preventive maintenance of the following types of equipment: Troubleshoots, services, and repairs equipment including, but not limited to: Overhead patient lifting equipment, portable patient lifting equipment, beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, and pneumatic tube systems Pumps; medical air, medical vacuum, instrument air, waste anesthesia gas, dental air, dental vacuum, dental waste anesthesia gas, condensate return, hot water recirculation, heating hot water, chilled water, sump, domestic water pressure booster, ice melt, sump pump alarms Traffic control barriers, bollards, guard shacks, guard rails, building ladders, speedbumps, parking lot fencing, electric gates, parking lot height limit alarms, wall and door protection, cardboard compactors, bio-hazard sterilizer, glass crushers, scissors and equipment lifts, dock plates, bumper locks, overhead doors, roll down "firefly" doors, Trash carts, scrubbers, floor polishing equipment, vacuum cleaners, food conveyors, tray-veyors, ovens, dishwashers, food disposal units, food mixing equipment, food slicing equipment, glass washers, food delivery and warming units, pot and pan washers Pallet jacks, pallet stacker truck, power pallet jacks, warehouse scales, storage cages, arena seating Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD94105A Physical Requirements: Incumbents will stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, frequently handle, lift, and carry items that weigh up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and carry items that weigh over fifty pounds. Incumbents will engage in periods of continuous exertion while cutting, welding, bending, and shaping complex items and constructing larger, bulkier items. The workday requires frequent activity and foot travel as well as use of all hand and power tools.
