Job Description:

You will serve as a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT in the TRAVEL BRANCH, ACCOUNTING DIVISION, COMPTROLLER DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Experience utilizing Joint Travel Regulations, headquarters messages concerning changes in Navy or DOD policy, local regulations, and instructions to provide counsel and guidance to management officials, supervisors, and travelers both civilian and military. * Experience with security clearance procedures and passport requirements. * Experience ensuring employees are trained in the use of the travel charge card and associated responsibilities. * Experience performing work assignments have deadlines and very little lead-time. * Experience as a fully qualified typist and operating fully automated office equipment and related equipment. * Experience resolving complex travel problems. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive travel requests and check for proper authorizing signatures and accounting data.
You will prepare itineraries depicting the most direct route for the least cost.
You will calculate per diem authorized for travelers with charge cards.
You will ensure that government quarters are utilized to the maximum extent possible.
You will review travel vouchers for appropriateness of expenditures and claims and advise travelers accordingly.
