The primary purpose of this position, ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, NJ-0802-04, is to provide scientific and engineering resources, equipment and skills, to analyze and test, materials, and components to support customers in sustaining and improving their products and processes produced or used during weapon system maintenance activities.
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the 0802, Engineering Technical Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. NJ-4 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-03, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is described as technical work in: drafting, surveying construction, estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents with substantial developmental, test or design responsibilities such as planning and estimating analyzed designs for production purposes and instrument making or model making performing design or development work on devices fabricated. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Extensive knowledge of dimensional measurement technology, equipment, techniques and software. Knowledge of common gauges and measurement instruments; variable, attribute and transfer gages, measurement scales and how to apply each of these. Ability to perform dimensional inspections of complex parts using Ziess CMM's, FARO arms, laser scanners, laser trackers, OGP Smart Scope, including detailed understanding of associated software. Capability to expand laser tracker volumetric area by using leap-frogging capabilities with FARO arms. Maintain detailed knowledge of 3D CADD modeling practices and software while assisting other individuals and groups in use of CADD. Especially proper use of Import/Export of STEP and IGES data files. Skilled in creating 3-D models of aircraft mechanical and structural parts and assemblies, and how to use models to perform model based inspections. General and practical knowledge of engineering concepts, methods, principles, practices and techniques; familiarity with engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, NDI, etc.). Ability to organize and execute complex projects meeting performance/cost/schedule requirements. Ability to research, analyze interpret and apply rules regulations and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely an economical solutions. Math: Can solve basic shop math problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of fractions and decimals, squares and square roots. Use methods such as truncation and rounding to obtain significant digits for positive and negative numbers. Can solve or simplify first-degree and single-variable equations. Can calculate general parameters such as area, circumference, perimeter and volume for basic geometric shapes. Calculate complementary and supplementary angles. Can compute angles and lengths using trigonometric functions such as sine, cosine, tangent and the Pythagorean Theorem. Extensive Professional knowledge of blueprints, drawings, 3D Models and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Specifications ranging from the 1950's too current. Must be able to define and interpret various sections of technical drawings, drawing views and details for product specifications or other controlling documents. Define and use various terms and symbols from the ASME Y14.5 Standard. Calculate position and bonus tolerance from various drawings. Determine part alignment and setup using the datum structure and air craft coordinates. Skilled in project management techniques, principles and practices. Ability to understand, follow and implement guidance and exercise good judgment. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Perform dimensional inspection of First Article, Conformance Verification Program and engineering requested parts/assemblies using various measurement equipment and software i.e. (Calypso, Verisurf, Cam 2 Measure 10, V-tube and Measure-mind) including coordinate measuring machines (CMM's), FARO arms, laser scanners and laser trackers. Review and is responsible for management, control and testing of First Articles on structural, mechanical and electrical parts and assemblies. Develop written inputs acceptable for inclusion in contractual documents. Provide specialized technical assistance for reverse engineering where dimensional measurement interpretations are required for the development application of technical data used for the manufacture, overhaul and repair of aerospace components and accessories.
