You will serve as a LEAD POLICE OFFICER in the Commander, Navy Installations Command of NAVSTA NEWPORT SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector responding and investigating complaints while interpreting and enforcing state and federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DoD, and Navy regulations, and installation directives, rules and regulations; investigating full spectrums of critical incidents including acts of terrorism, active shooter, mass casualty incidents, natural disasters, traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, sexual assaults, child abuse/neglect, etc. on a regular basis; operating electronic tactical police communications equipment, including mobile data terminals to receive dispatches, respond to calls and complete official reports; defending installation personnel, equipment, and resources from terrorist threats or hostile attack by operating firearms, specialized weapons and special purpose equipment. Conditions of Employment continued: ~ This position requires rotating shift work. ~ This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. ~ Incumbent must complete a pre-employment background check and ongoing background checks to affirm employability as a Police Officer. ~ Must be willing to complete a pre-employment background check and ongoing background checks to affirm employability as a Police Officer. ~ Incumbent must successfully complete a DoD approved Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training. Must also successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training. ~ This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition. ~ Incumbent must understand that they will be required to be CPR certified and utilize a portable heart defibrillator where available. ~ Incumbent must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license. ~ Incumbent must be willing to successfully complete the mandated 40-hour Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) to be qualified to Operate motor vehicles (i.e. sedans, cargo trucks, pickup trucks) having gross vehicle weights of 7,000 pounds or less, loading capacities of 1 ton or less, manual transmissions, and 2 or 4-wheel drive in support of operations and to transport personnel and materials throughout the installation and on public roads. With additional training, the incumbent may be required to qualify on police bicycles and other rough terrain vehicles such as ATVs and snow mobiles. ~ Incumbent must be willing to meet OPM hearing and vision requirements to include distinguishing basic shades of color. ~ Incumbent must be willing and able to maintain good grooming standards in order to properly wear protective equipment while performing the duties of this position. ~ Incumbent must be willing to maintain proficiency for response to: installation perimeter breeches, hostage situations, vehicle borne improvised explosive device (IED), waterborne (IED) and pedestrian borne improvised explosive attacks, active shooter incidents, bomb threats, counter unmanned systems, suspicious packages and other terrorist threats, natural disasters, civil disturbances, and a myriad of law enforcement responses. ~ Due to significant training requirements levied by DoD, SECNAV and OPNAV, incumbent must be trained and qualified to conduct Guard mount and pre/post watch training of other LE personnel before, during and after the assigned shift. ~ Incumbent must be qualified in the use of firearms and I am willing and able to be armed in the performance of my duties. ~ Incumbent must be 18 years of age or older prior to start of employment. Note: This position requires working in hazardous, industrial areas. Department of Labor Child Labor laws do not permit people under the age of 18 to work in those types of areas. ~ This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
You will conduct preliminary and non-criminal investigations in compliance with probable cause requirements.
You will carry firearms or other weapons authorized for a specific jurisdiction.
Conduct investigations through record checks, interviews, surveillance, or other methods to ascertain any criminal activity.
You will identify course of action to be taken in emergency situations.
You will respond to and investigate complaints while interpreting and enforcing state and federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DoD, and Navy regulations, and installation directives, rules and regulations.
You will operate electronic tactical police communications equipment, including mobile data terminals to receive dispatches, respond to calls and complete official reports.
