This vacancy is for a GS - 0028 - 11, Environmental Protection Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE KODIAK ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION -FE in KODIAK, Alaska.
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis. You will serve as a Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for the soundness and timeliness of all assigned work in these media areas. Evaluates environmental documentation, reports, studies, etc., submitted by executors under contract to the Division and others. Reviews and comments on submittals prepared by these groups to assure that environmental objectives are met. Compliance programs oversight. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Planning, requesting resources and reporting. Deciding which new environmental projects to bring online, which existing projects to continue, how to phase these projects for planning and implementation. Overseeing programs, projects, activities and processes characterized by environmental concerns, relative to improving and/or protecting air, land and water resources. Conducting periodic inspections in the assigned area at all environmental facilities/ processes to ensure compliance and in anticipation of quality assurance inspections by others. Reviewing federal, states and local regulations to ensure familiarity with compliance requirements. Accompanying Assessors/ Inspectors on media inspections and addresses deficiencies, Notices of Violation, enforcement actions and fines with on-the-spot corrections, rebuttals and through corrective action closeouts, through risk management or mitigation.
