To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to Do the Work of the position without More than Normal Supervision. Operate trucks and equipment with multiple operating functions like front loader/compactor trash trucks equipment. Operate various types of equipment and trucks on congested roadways, in inclement weather and on steep and narrow roadways. Loads, secures, and hauls equipment to and from project sites using truck and trailer. Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside with the majority of work being performed outside. When working outside, worker is frequently exposed to inclement weather. Incumbent works in rain, mud, snow, and in hot/cold temperatures. The operator is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, fumes, oils, solvents and cold and dampness. Worker is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Summer conditions could include noise, and potential hazards in the form of poisonous plants, insects, wild animals and snakes. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats. Air Quality: Poor air quality afflicts Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, especially during summer months - generally May to October. High ozone levels may be the most harmful pollutant here.
