Job Description:

The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) serves as an advanced technician for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Step-down Unit, and/or Post anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for patients who are present for treatment. The ICT performs ongoing patient care duties in a critical care setting under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, licensed independent provider and/or advanced practice provider assigned, credentialed, privileged and competent in the management and care of the patient.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below: Individual Occupation Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6 that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled to be eligible for the GS-7 level. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements. OR, Education: 1 year of graduate education related to the position being filled. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Assists critical care licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations. This may include setting up equipment and passing instruments in the event of defibrillation, cardioversions, insertion of chest drainage tubes, insertion of thoracostomy tubes, rapid sequence intubation, or initiation of mechanical ventilation to restore normal physiological function or prevent deterioration of patient's condition. Performing observation-based screening, collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. This may involve obtaining patient health history, chief complaints, medication history, and information about health-related or high-risk conditions that may impact the patient's health status. Observes patient status and continually keeps licensed personnel informed of progress and any change based on information gathered. Documents in the telemetry record and reports all observed electrocardiographic (ECG) changes in the patient's condition to the licensed staff. Skill in communication techniques and the operation of communications equipment to be able to accurately obtain and relay information to and from health care team. Answers patient call light, either in person or electronically, andensures patient request is passed along to the appropriate nursing staff (e.g. Charge Nurse, Primary Nurse, Nursing Assistant, etc.). Perform clinical duties such as: Diagnostic and POC (point of care) studies. Examples: I-STAT, glucometer, bedside ultrasound, vital signs, EKGs. Equipment and procedural set up. Examples: chest tube insertion, assisting with placement of central venous access devices (CVAD). Observations and interventions. Examples: oxygen therapy, thermal regulation, ambulation, oral/trach care. Wound care. Examples: vacuum-assisted closure (wound vac), dressings, topical ointments, wound measurements. Specimen collection. Examples: venous blood samples, urine, sputum, stool and wound samples and cultures Preparation and transfer to the lab for processing: Examples: labeling, packaging (ice, heat, light protection). Assisting with patient exams and screening. Examples: orthostatic vital signs, 6-minute walk assessment, CAM and fall risk. Patient transport as secondary assistant. Examples: with or without cardiac monitoring and/or ventilation to and from diagnostic tests and/or transfers of patients. Cardiovascular monitoring. Examples: central station or bedside cardiac monitoring. Thoroughly and appropriately documents actions, interventions and procedures in the electronic health record (EHR). Work Schedule: 7 PM- 7:30 AM; Alternate weekends and holidays. Schedule will be discussed at time of interview. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
