About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MATERIALS HANDLER ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the following warehousing activities under minimal supervision, collecting, receiving, storing, selecting, issuing, transporting, and shipping materials, supplies and/or equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching and other physical movements. Regularly lifts and moves supplies weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items. Working Conditions: Works primarily inside but may be required to work outside when loading and unloading cargo and is occasionally exposed to bad weather. Works in a warehouse which may be poorly lighted, cold, damp, drafty, and may be exposed to dust, dirt, and grease. Subject to the possibility of cuts, bruises, strains, broken bones and more serious injuries from falling stock and motor vehicle accidents.
Selects items for shipment or issue.
Locates items by referring to locator cards; compares identifying information on documents with stock tags, bin markings, or box markings.
Unpacks and segregates items received, determines appropriate storage location considering such factors as size and security requirements; consolidates items for movement to specific storage areas.
