Job Description:

This Work Leader position is a journeyman laundry worker with additional duties of regularly directing and serving as a team leader for six to twenty laundry workers and three machine operators. Incumbent may be used to provide training to lower grade laundry workers. This leader position will require the knowledge of and ability to perform all duties as outlined in the Laundry Worker WG-1, WG-2, and WG-5 Machine Operators position descriptions.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/16/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The Organizational Location of the Position is in the Laundry Section, Environmental Management Service (EMS), at the Waco, TX. campus of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS), Temple, TX. This Work Leader position is a non-supervisory worker who, in addition to the exercise of leader responsibility, performs regular nonsupervisory (i.e., non-leader) Laundry Machine Operator work as a member of the work crew(s) or group(s) they lead. This position is responsible for leading up to as many as, approximately, twenty-five (25) Laundry Workers and three (3) Laundry Machine Operators. The tour of duty varies, depending upon the requirements of the Textile Processing Facility. Tours may include day shift, evening shift, weekends, or a combination thereof. The incumbent may be used to provide training to lower grade Laundry Workers. This Work Leader position will require the knowledge, skill and ability to perform all duties as outlined in the Laundry Worker WG-7304-01, WG-7304-02, and Laundry Machine Operator WG-7305-04 position descriptions (PD)s. Major duties include but not limited to: Work Leader Responsibilities Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led; Working along with other workers and setting the pace; Demonstrating proper work methods; Seeing to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations; Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work; 2 Maintaining a current knowledge, and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders); Seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; Checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met; Urging or advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines; Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (for example, assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly); Reporting to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays; and; Answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning, additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). Incumbent performs other related duties as assigned. Non-Leader Duties The Non-Supervisory (i.e. Non-Leader) duties are based upon the work led in Laundry Machine Operator WG-7305-04, 674-7885-A. Work Schedule: Sunday through Saturday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
