Job Description:
The primary purpose of the position is to provide proper care and maintenance of specimen trees and shrubs located within maintained landscapes; and mitigate hazard tree conditions along roadways and trails, and within developed areas such as campgrounds, picnic areas, etc., where the visiting public are invited to come;by performing arboricultural practices and applied arboricultural services.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instructions Vehicle Operation SCREEN OUTS: Minimum Qualifications: Perform, with close supervision, some of the duties of an Arborist, which may include designing and installing tree support systems, pruning trees and shrubs, recognizing insects and diseases while performing condition assessments of trees, using compound rigging techniques and methods while removing large limbs and/or dismantling trees, and felling large, complex trees in high visitation areas. DRIVER'S LICENSE: This position requires that the incumbent possess a Driver's License. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Provide proper care and feeding of specimen trees and shrubs within maintained landscapes. Mitigate hazard tree conditions along roadways, trails, campgrounds and developed areas. Diagnose tree and shrub biotic/abiotic disorders. Performs condition assessment of trees and shrubs. Ascends/descends tress using climbing gaffs (spikes) to perform arboricultural operations aloft in trees that will be removed from the landscape. Operates gasoline and diesel powered tractors 70 H.P. Operates 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton pickups, stake trucks, van trucks, platform trucks, bucket truck (aerial lift to perform arboricultural operations aloft), and/or dump truck which typically have an approximate GVW of not more than 32,000 pounds.
