About the Position: The Occupational Therapy Assistant serves as the OTA for a designated work area with the medical treatment facility (MTF), working under the general supervision of an Occupational Therapist as required by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) supervision guidelines and standards of practice. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A Relocation Incentive MAY be authorized.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes includes implementing occupational therapy treatment plans or instructing on occupational therapy programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Under supervising Occupational therapist determines indications and contraindications for treatment and develops a treatment program according to the established goals in the treatment plan.

In consultation with supervising Occupational therapist, implements treatment plans in an individual or group setting.
Interviews the client and family members to gather historical information for initial and ongoing treatment and assessments.
Discusses treatment goals with the family members, pertinent personnel, and other caregivers to facilitate goal achievement.
Assists the OTR in the development of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes long and short-term goals.
Documents information related to all patients care in accordance with guidelines from the American Occupational Therapy Association, The Joint Commission (JC), current military protocols and as instructed by supervisor.
Completes required data collection for workload management, analysis and research studies.
Maintains treatment areas, administrative areas, and personal spaces in a safe, orderly manner. Performs non-technical maintenance of equipment to prevent malfunctions.
Contributes to the marketing of occupational therapy throughout the facility.
