Job Description:

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. As a Preservation Helper, you will perform the following duties: Assists with preserving masonry including chiseling, mortar analysis and mixing, and repointing of historic features using hand tools. Assists with preserving and restoring wood crafted items, including those with special finishes and stains. Assists with historic preservation of roofing to include repairs to flashing, shingles, and architectural elements while working on scaffolding. Assists with preserving and restoring historic painted surfaces, including those with special finishes and colors. Assists with preserving carpets to include structural framing, reconstruction of windows and doors, and finishing carpets using a variety of power and hand tools. Operates a light truck to move and transport people and material to and from worksite.
