We expect to fill 3 vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available. This is a temporary appointment. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.

Basic Requirements GS-05 From the descriptions below, select the one statement that most accurately describes how you meet the Basic Requirement for a Natural Resources Specialist, GS-0401 position. Meeting the Basic Requirement also qualifies you for the grade GS-05. A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Have an appropriate combination of education and experience, courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education related to the position which demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study.(MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS) Minimum Qualifications GS-07 For the grade GS-07, in addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must possess specialized experience, graduate education or a combination of specialized experience and graduate education. From the descriptions below, select the one response that most accurately describes how you meet the qualification requirements for the Natural Resource Specialist GS-0401-07 position. Specialized Experience: I Have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) carrying out and reporting on field inventories and survey results in evaluating the health of biological resources; 2) providing assistance to resource specialists in the development or implementation of resource management plans; 3) providing assistance to other specialists in the preparation or writing of environmental compliance or monitoring documents; 4) collecting, entering, and reviewing natural resources data to ensure data quality and integrity. OR Education: Completed of 1 year of graduate education in a field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to conduct the work of this position such as biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.(MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS) OR Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: I have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above which, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement.(MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles. Work Environment: Office work is performed in a setting that is adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated. When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.
Learns to ensure data quality and integrity by adherence to quality control standards and procedures.
Assists other specialists in efforts to plan, carry out, and report on field inventories to evaluate the health of biological resources. The incumbent will assist with the analysis inventory data to identify any impacts or concerns.
Documents, evaluates, and reports changes in natural resources status. Assists more senior resources specialists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of resource management plans.
Participates in the implementation of natural resource programs by assisting with specific projects.
The incumbent may setup and implement new procedures for recurring well precedented natural resource improvement projects in coordination with other more senior resource specialists and/or the supervisor.
