Job Description:
You will serve as a NAVAL ARCHITECT in the Virginia Class Submarine Systems Engineering Division (SEA05U2) in the Naval Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05) of NAVSEA HQ FIELD SUPPORT. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band NH-03 (GS-13) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or naval architect administering engineering project management to solve engineering problem with team and communication skills for the driven resolution of the system engineering process with limited information and time constraints. You will be responsible for all systems including Hull Structural Systems and Naval Architecture on Virginia Class Submarines throughout its service life (i.e. new construction).
You will provide technical oversight of activities and expert-level advice for development and sustainment of these systems or systems components.
You will ensure appropriate systems engineering processes are properly applied during systems life cycle.
You will plan, manage and coordinate various engineering development programs/projects which involve continuous systems monitoring, evaluation, modification, and analysis of other pertinent factors affecting system performance.
You will keep abreast of latest engineering technological advances and state of the art applications pertinent to the development of new products or theories within various engineering fields, e.g. aerospace, electrical, electronics, and mechanics.
You will develop design of ships, subs, small craft, e.g., hull form, structural strength, stability, weight, speed, ship motion, trim, seaworthiness, power and endurance.
You will work with resource sponsors and program offices, direct naval architecture projects on major ship/sub/small craft program of National importance.
You will direct/manage a project team or the overall development efforts for major Navy program assignments which require the highly skilled application of scientific and systems engineering theories, concepts and principles.
You will provide guidance and direction over project team engineers, and naval architecture activities with reference to planning, designing, and reporting of risk engineering and operations as required in preparation of system and ship design.
You will interpret the application of naval architecture engineering policy to arrive at critical program/project decisions to resolve conflicts and determine courses of action and necessary scope of risk reduction efforts.
