Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing patient care in an inpatient Medical/Telemetry Unit; operating or maintaining telemetry and electrocardiogram equipment (ECG). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with a major field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as nursing, OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, medical technology, or physics. Of the 24 semester hours, at least 12 must have been in a field directly related to the specialization of the position as identified in (a). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Continuously monitors telemetry and hardwire electrocardiogram (ECG) tracings, oxygen saturation, central venous pressures, and arterial pressure wave forms and values
Perform post-procedural patient care (cardiac catheterization, cardiothoracic surgery, and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty)
Explain procedures to patients
Assists with nursing care activities and procedures to include but not limited to obtaining intravenous access, phlebotomy, cardiac rehabilitation, glucometer quality assurance, obtaining vital signs and patient transport
Serve a member of the response team in the event of a cardiac emergency
Positions patient and connects to ECG monitoring and diagnostic equipment (i.e. telemetry, cardiac monitors, and 12-lead ECG machines)
Differentiates relative significance of various abnormal conditions and takes appropriate action (trouble shoots equipment and notifies appropriate personnel for direct intervention
