The purpose of this position is to perform tasks that expand knowledge of methods and techniques to further develop skills in recreation planning.
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/20/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes reviewing documents for compliance with environmental law and policy; serving on an interdisciplinary team to evaluate project impacts; compiling technical data; creating project maps; assisting with environmental compliance documents (categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, or environmental impact statements); collecting and analyzing natural resource data. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Have successfully completed at least one (1) full year of graduate level education in outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as: sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation, which provided me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Note: Applicants qualifying on the basis of graduate work in related disciplines must have one or more courses in outdoor recreation. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: have an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above that meets 100% of the requirements for this position. (To calculate, first take the number of semester hours or equivalent earned towards a qualifying graduate degree and divide by 18. Then take the number of months of experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify). Note: You must have one or more courses in outdoor recreation. You must include transcripts and include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Provides support in coordinating, reviewing, and responding to external projects such as roads and bridges, wind towers, pipelines, housing developments, and similar. Provides support in park planning efforts, such as management plans or similar planning efforts. Provides support in recreation planning and recreation-related data collection and processing. Provides support in park compliance efforts to ensure adherence to established laws and policies, such as National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Wild and Scenic Rivers Act (WSRA) and others.
