Specialized Experience Requirement: GW-11: Applicants must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GW-09 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Managed and/or assisted with a component of a wildland fire and/or wildland fire safety program; Provided technical guidance to implement risk management plans, policies, programs and/or guidelines for wildland fire safety; Assisted in conducting fire safety training for a unit as member of a wildland firefighting team. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Serves as the Risk Management Specialist for the Forest and independently provides risk management program leadership and direction in all resource programs.
Coordinates with the Forest Fire Staff Officer, District Rangers, the Regional Safety and Health Officer, and Forest Leadership Team in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and guidelines for risk management in resource programs.
Analyzes the program to provide for processes procedures, and equipment consistent with preventing accidents and loss of life in the resource management programs.
Plans and coordinates risk management studies to determine the degree of hazards and accidents caused by project-related activities to determine basic causes, critical situations, information needs and performance.
Analyzes and reviews forest and regional accidents/fatality reports, injuries, and illnesses resulting from resource operations.
May serve as a team member on Accident/Incident, Serious Injury, and Fatality Investigation Teams and as a Board of Review team member when requested.
