Job Description:

This position is located at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center in Juneau, Alaska. The salary of the position will be adjusted to include a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
You must meet the ANILCA eligibility requirements to be referred for this position. Eligibility Requirements: You must have lived and or worked in or near the geographic boundaries of the Tongass National Forest and have special knowledge or expertise concerning the natural and cultural resources in the Southeast Alaska area to participate in visitor services activities. Your responses to the questions in the assessment for this announcement must clearly show that you meet the eligibility requirements.
Provides and supervises the daily operation of a Visitor Services Center including a program of interpretive and education programs, operations, natural resources, and partnerships.
Responsible for visitor information and public services activities. Coordinates responses to inquiries about recreation facilities, user permits, points of interest, and related activities.
Develops interpretive and environmental education programs, media and exhibits for use on the unit and the Visitor Center.
Coordinates the public participation program, which is designed to involve interested publics in the decision-making processes.
Provides leadership for planning and implementation of Interpretive Services and Conservation education programs for the unit interpretive program.
Visitor services include: preventative safety messaging for local hazards such as bears, other wildlife, hazardous weather and trail conditions; and incident response for first aid accidents.
Supervises 20% or less of assigned duties.
Other duties as assigned.
