This vacancy is for a GS-0203-8, Human Resources Assistant located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, PSC BOPS CG MILITARY HUMAN RESOURCE RECORD SECTION in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia.
To qualify at the GS-08 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Managing, updating, and safeguarding official military personnel records for active, reserve, or retired components within a human resources command; demonstrating proficiency in maintaining data integrity for career milestone; conducting record audits to ensure accountability and readiness. Performing data entry, verification, and life cycle management within official electronic records management systems. Demonstrating technical guidance and corrective feedback to team members to maintain organizational consistency and/or resolve complex record discrepancies. Serving as a primary liaison for technical and administrative inquiries within a human resources environment; communicating technical requirements to non-technical users and adapt to shifting organizational priorities while maintaining high service-level standards. Evaluating and optimizing human resources records management workflows through the application of federal, military, or equivalent regulatory structure. You will serve as a Human Resources Assistant and be responsible for customer service inquiries and first-level problem resolution of batch issues within the Coast Guard's instance of the U.S. Army's Interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System (iPERMS). Ensures the accuracy and accountability of all USCG active duty, reserve, and retired OMPF records. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Maintain, update, and safeguard vital military personnel records for all U.S. Coast Guard Active Duty, Reserve, and Retired members within the Coast Guard Military Human Resource Record (CGMHRR) Section, Capabilities Branch, at the Coast Guard Personnel Service Center (CGPSC) in Washington, DC. Ensure the accuracy and accountability of records in both the CGMHRR and the Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). Accurately enter, verify, and process personnel data using the Interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System (iPERMS). Regularly audit the work of other staff members to ensure data integrity, compliance, and consistency across all records. Provide feedback and guidance to uphold high standards. Serve as the main point of contact for customer service inquiries and first-level problem resolution of batch issues within iPERMS. Deliver prompt and professional support to Coast Guard personnel regarding military HR records. Communicate complex information clearly, resolve issues efficiently, and assist with a wide range of military HR functions, adapting to changing needs. Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Ensure all actions comply with COMDTINST M1080.10 series and all other applicable Coast Guard and federal regulations controlling military personnel records. Identify and mitigate risks related to data security or compliance. Identify and recommend improvements to HR records management processes. Apply specialized knowledge of federal and military HR policies, procedures, and terminology. Stay current with regulatory changes and demonstrate flexibility in taking on new tasks and responsibilities as organizational needs evolve.
