This vacancy is for a GS-0028-12, Environmental Protection Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE NEW ORLEANS FACILITIES ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT -F in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Environmental compliance in the areas of solid and hazardous waste management, air and water environmental media. Utilizing standard environmental management systems / compliance management plans (EMS/CMP) to support and control environmental regulatory compliance Developing operational controls and courses of action (COAs) to mitigate risks and enhance environmental stewardship. You will serve as a Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for the Environmental Compliance Program and serve as the subject matter expert for Base New Orleans, overseeing compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, managing permits and environmental programs, conducting audits, training personnel, and coordinating with regulatory agencies to ensure environmental protection and sustainability across all base operations. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Leading unit authority for development and implementation of an appropriate environmental management system (EMS) / environmental compliance management plan (CMP). Overseeing and directing corrections of deficiencies for assigned program areas and activities. Controlling and management of environmental program areas and activities Supporting the installation's efforts to support and foster the intent and spirit of the Commandant's Sustainability, Environmental, and Energy Policy Statement (i.e. Coast Guard (CG) environmental policy statement, current edition.
