About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Army Medical Center Madigan, Directorate of Primary Care, Optometry Service. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. A recruitment incentive may be authorized.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience assisting in the evaluation of patients; obtaining medical and ocular history, documenting pertinent patient information into electronic medical records; performing visual acuity testing, fitting and ordering of spectacles; and using specialized ophthalmic equipment to aide in the treatment of optometry patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Conduct preliminary screening tests for patients undergoing routine eye exams, physical examinations, and medical surveillance evaluations.
Conduct diagnostic testing and operate, calibrate, and program optometry equipment for patient evaluations.
Assist in minor ophthalmic procedures to include administering medication, setting up equipment and cleaning up after procedures. Perform administrative support functions for the clinic.
Perform basic operation, minor repairs, and first-level maintenance on optometry equipment such as the auto-refractor, non-contact tonometer, lensometer, and other routine diagnostic tools.
Use automated systems to schedule appointments and to enter, update, and retrieve patient information.
Order and receive military prescription eyewear through automated processing systems.
