Opportunity
The Electro‑Mechanic – Youth Apprentice supports the Central Maintenance team by assisting with the troubleshooting, installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of production machinery and facility equipment in a heavy industrial environment. Under the direct guidance of skilled maintenance technicians, mentors, and supervision, the apprentice develops foundational mechanical and electrical competencies essential to maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
Job Responsibilities
Mechanical repairs to all machines and equipment, e.g., alignment of machine spindles, slides and ways.Replace bearings, shafts, gears, etc.
Repair a variety of hydraulic and pneumatic valves and controls, pressure regulators, pumps, tools, etc.Assist in solving excessive tooling or machine problems in production equipment, which may include the operation of machines, incidental to troubleshooting those machines.Adjust, align, patch or replace drives, conveyors, etc.Perform preventive and predictive maintenance procedures on specified machinery and equipment.Perform a variety of bench work jobs.Clean up oil and grease around machines.Change air filters on machines.Check and control proper oil level in all production equipment. Change as required.Apply lubrication to equipment as required on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.Clean, maintain and secure company tools and work areas.Proficiently operate a wide variety of tools, e.g., hand tools, socket sets, wrenches, pneumatic wrenches, micrometers, verniers, levels, drill press, grinders, etc. Be capable of reading, interpreting and using blueprints, drawings, sketches, parts books and measurements.Electrical troubleshooting, installation, and repair to all machines and equipment, e.g. motors, variable frequency drives, motor control components, PLC’s, and robots.Be able to use all electrical test equipment necessary for troubleshooting, installation, and repair.Troubleshoot, install, and repair lighting systems (lamp replacement, ballast replacement, and lighting control systems –switches, motion sensors, and dimming controls).Install new electrical raceways, e.g. metallic conduit, metallic tubing, cable tray, pvc conduit, ‘sealtight’.Select and install proper wire or cable to meet equipment and code requirements.Select and install proper electrical protective devices to meet equipment and code requirements, e.g. fuses, breakers, and overload relays.Understand and use proper electrical safety equipment and measures to keep oneself and other safe from electrical hazards.Proficiently operate a wide variety of tools, e.g., hand tools, socket sets, wrenches, micrometers, levels, drill press, grinders, etc. Be capable of reading, interpreting and using blueprints, drawings, sketches, parts books and measurements.Update electrical drawings and equipment labeling necessary to maintain an accurate archive of electrical information.Assist in electrical shutdown maintenance, e.g. grounding, testing, and cleaning of switchgear, transformers, and breakers.Electrical troubleshooting, installation, and repair of emergency power systems, e.g. generators, transfer switches, battery back-up systems.Use Computerized Maintenance Management system
