Job Description:

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.
1. Must be a USCP Officer below the rank of Sergeant and attain the rank of Private with Training by the closing date of this announcement. 2. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the date of selection. 3. Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status to attend, participate, and successfully complete all required training courses related to this position as of the date of selection. 4. Must be available to work flexible hours, rotating shifts, and possible midnight assignments. 5. Must have a current Real ID U.S. driver’s license. Retention Criteria: l. Must successfully complete the Subject Interdiction Officer (SIO) training courses and all other required training. 2. Must successfully complete the TIGER/SIO Annual Handgun Certification Course. 3. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period beginning on the date of SIO training completion.
The Threat Interdiction Group Emergency Response (TIGER) Team is located within the Special Operations Division, Operational Services Bureau. All members of TIGER should be highly trained and able to provide plainclothes police response to both high-risk/low frequency events as well as low-risk- /high frequency events. Plainclothes TIGER units provide an unobtrusive presence while interacting with the community and completing their objectives, such as: subject observation and interdiction; crisis intervention and negotiation; immediate threat detection and mitigation; and fostering trust and cooperation within the local community. Note: Multiple vacancies exist. The number of positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. The selection list will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the selection memorandum unless an applicant withdraws in writing their application.
