This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includes 1) Directing personnel in firefighting activities, medical emergencies, fire inspections and investigations; 2) Overseeing the maintenance of station and/or firefighting equipment; and 3) Implementing program requirements for fire prevention/protection. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain at the time of application the following: DoD, Pro-Board, or IFSAC Firefighter Certification levels: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter. (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Serves as Captain with shift responsibilities to direct firefighting activities of crews, receiving general instruction from the supervisor.
Plans work schedules and operations to ensure even flow and distribution of work.
Directs crew in station duties to include inspection of equipment, execution of training, drills and performance of fire prevention inspections.
Manages supplies and makes recommendations for maintenance or replacement of equipment.
Establish performance standards and review requirements with crew members.
Conducts periodic meetings with supervised staff to review management goals, policies, and procedural changes in support of the organization and mission.
Directs the firefighting activities to include implementing procedures, techniques and methods of operation for rapid and effective response to fire calls.
Perform firefighting and emergency medical duties as mandated by the needs of the organization.
Performs regular inspections of fire stations to ensure they are clean, orderly, and operated according to established policies.
Performs administrative duties to include daily log entries, event reports, inspections, budgets and vehicle maintenance logs.
Serve as a technical advisor to management on all matters relating to Fire protection and prevention programs.
