In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (see Education), your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Independently conducting Industrial Hygiene Surveys, assessing and documenting workplace hazards, and recommending appropriate controls Applying federal, state, Department of Defense (DoD), and department of the Navy (DON) occupational health laws, policies, regulations, guidelines, methodologies, and objectives to the development and implementation of a region-wide industrial hygiene program Drafting industrial hygiene policy and guidance for occupational health and safety professionals Investigating health problems among workers to determine probable cause and recommend corrective measures to minimize health hazards Devising control measures for ventilation, shielding, material, substitution, and change in work procedures Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0600/industrial-hygiene-series-0690/ Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys, and evaluations.
You will assess work practices to identify the population at risk and to detect violations of published health standards.
You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination, noise, and other physical stressors as well as the quantitative assessment of ventilation systems.
You will recommend engineering controls to correct deficiencies where feasible.
You will provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns.
