Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) GENERAL MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR ~ without more than normal supervision. Able to perform common General Maintenance Supervisor tasks such as planning multi-trade work operations involving grounds maintenance, roads, and industrial equipment; estimating time, materials and equipment required to complete maintenance and repair projects; organizing work assignments where judgment as to individual abilities are involved; evaluating work and providing guidance through interpreting oral and written instructions for facility maintenance and repair; AND perform quality control checks on subordinate workers, identify problem areas and make recommendations for improvements. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally handles heavier items, usually with assistance of another person or of mechanical devices. Work is frequently done from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. The work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to mud, water, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections from unsanitary work sites. Incumbent has occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones. Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn. Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
Serves as the General Maintenance Supervisor in a Defense Health Agency Military Treatment Facility
Plan work schedules and operations, and establish deadlines and priorities for subordinates.
Assign work tasks to employees; explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; and instructs employees on new work procedures. Investigate work related problems and implement corrective action.
Ensure that equipment and supplies are available to perform the required maintenance.
Develop performance standards, counsels employees on performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals.
Review job descriptions for accuracy and currency; interview candidates for vacancies; schedule and approve leave requests of subordinates; identify employees training needs; counsel employees on problems; and maintain production reports and records.
