The typical season for this position is April through September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026. NOTE: OPM has identified this position as eligible for an exception to the typical 1039-hour season. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required. Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties. -AND- To be eligible your application package must clearly show periods of time having lived or worked in or near the area of consideration. The area of consideration can be found in the below paragraph. Areas considered "near" Kenai Fjords National Park are the communities of Seward and Moose Pass extending north the Milepost 45 of the Seward Highway, as well as to the tribal villages with documented ties. These tribal villages include the Native Village of Nanwalek and the Native Village of Port Graham on the southwestern tip of the Kenai Peninsula as well as Seldovia Village Tribe. Also included is the Community of Homer, extending north on the Sterling Highway to mile post 165 and East End Road's end. The following are the competencies identified for this position. Applicants are not required to address these competencies in a separate document, but are encouraged to include in their resumes experience related to these competencies: Ability to effectively coordinate projects involving multiple personnel and locations, including remote field camps. Knowledge of weather, marine conditions, transportation and purchasing in relation with field operations in remote marine coastal areas. Ability to manage inventory of supplies and equipment. Ability to safely operate small boats in remote coastal marine environments with large tidal activity and cold water. Ability to communicate effectively.
You will work as a Logistics Coordinator in the Resource Management division at Kenai Fjords National Park. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Provide logistical support and coordination to all field operations within the park. Coordinate boat or aircraft transportation for field staff. Provide daily radio communications with backcountry teams. Procure supplies and equipment. Arrange shipment to the field, relaying messages. Work closely with Resource Management personnel to coordinate, purchase and transport fuel, food, and other material and coordinating activities among various parties to maximize efficiencies and minimize conflicting use of vessels, field camps, etc. Responsible for routine maintenance and inventory of field equipment. Data entry and related miscellaneous clerical duties may be required. Though the majority of work will be office based, the incumbent may accompany and assist field personnel on projects and perform fieldwork. Serve as primary participants on the park's Coastal Operations Working Group which coordinates activities among various parties to maximize efficiencies and minimize conflicting use of vessels, field camps, etc. and makes recommendations for best practices and policy changes to management regarding park coastal operations. Also serve as back-ups to the other and collaborate on many tasks.
